In 2022 I set myself the challenge to start painting more to build a body or work and to explore my style more. I found inspiration with plants due to my love of gardening and also landscapes depicting scenes from Longreach in Central West Queensland where I was living in 2022 and had lived for a majority of my life. I also entered my first art competition entering a piece about my childhood in longreach to the John Villers 2022 Competition in Winton.

This painting was heavily inspired by a meme about one’s cats contacting their dead owner to meow for food at 3:00am.
It was commissioned by a dear friend in 2022, who has a love for animals and spiritualism. As a maximalist at heart, I enjoyed filling this painting with detail and occultic symbolism.
I feel that this painting was a point of growth for me in my style. I had never attempted to create an image that had so much detail and yet still maintained a cohesive narrative.
Similar to when I was in high school, I had a lot of fun painting this piece and self reflection would suggest that this freedom to experiment and play led to a break through.
I have included a four images showing the different stages of the painting. I enjoy looking back and seeing how an image develops and the difference a few things makes to the image.
